Made in Italy Meets Pretoria: A Successful Celebration of Italian Excellence
The Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, in partnership with Menlyn Maine Precinct, successfully hosted Italy in Town – Pretoria Edition on 12–13 September 2026, bringing two vibrant days of Italian culture, excellence and innovation to the heart of Gauteng.
The event was a great success, welcoming visitors to an immersive celebration of Italian gastronomy, fine wines, fashion, design, music and automotive excellence. Guests enjoyed authentic Italian food and wine experiences, chef demonstrations, cultural performances and an impressive showcase of iconic Italian automotive brands, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Ducati, Vespa, Lambretta and Italjet.
Across the two days, Italy in Town Pretoria provided a dynamic platform for visitors, businesses and the Italian-South African community to connect and experience the many facets of Made in Italy. The event highlighted Italy’s enduring reputation for craftsmanship, creativity, design and innovation, while celebrating the strong cultural and business ties between Italy and South Africa.
With its lively atmosphere, diverse programme and strong public engagement, the Pretoria edition was a memorable success, showcasing the passion, style and creativity of Italy and further strengthening the connection between the two countries.
The event also brought together a selection of prominent Italian and Italy-connected brands, including several valued members of the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries (ItalCham).
Among the participating companies, Ariston, Italtile, IVECO, MSC Cruises, Pirelli, and Technogym showcased their expertise, innovation, and contribution to the strong business relationship between Italy and South Africa.

He previously chaired the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee and holds an MSc in Economics from SOAS University of London.

South Africa's Local Election Risk Briefing

On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, the Italian South African Chamber of Trade and Industries (ItalCham), in collaboration with The Paternoster Group and fellow European Chambers of Commerce, hosted South Africa’s Local Election Risk Briefing at the Cape Town Club.
The briefing offered members of the European business community an overview of South Africa’s evolving local political and governance landscape ahead of the next local government elections.
Led by The Paternoster Group, the discussion examined key factors shaping the business environment, including political stability, municipal governance, infrastructure, service delivery and investment execution.
Particular attention was given to Johannesburg, where ongoing pressures on water, electricity and infrastructure continue to create operational and financial challenges for businesses. Cape Town was discussed as a comparatively stable and well-governed metropolitan area, while also facing growing pressure on infrastructure and services as the city continues to expand.
The political and administrative dynamics of eThekwini and Nelson Mandela Bay were also examined, highlighting how leadership changes and institutional challenges can influence municipal performance and the operating environment for businesses.
Following the Cape Town briefing, a second session was held on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg, bringing together members of the business community for further discussion on the local government landscape and the implications for businesses operating in South Africa. ItalCham member Inventure was also present at the Johannesburg session.
A key message from the discussions was that political risk and business risk are increasingly interconnected. Understanding local government dynamics, infrastructure reliability and institutional capacity is therefore essential for businesses when considering investment, expansion and long-term strategy.
The briefings also highlighted the value of collaboration among European Chambers in South Africa in facilitating informed dialogue and providing the business community with greater insight into developments affecting the operating environment.

Pétanque & Bocce Cup: A Celebration of Italian and French Tradition
On Thursday, 10 September 2026, the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries and the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry came together at the Italian Club of Cape Town for the second edition of the Pétanque & Bocce Cup.
Bringing together two much-loved traditional games from Italy and France, the afternoon offered a relaxed and enjoyable setting for members, guests and friends of both Chambers to connect, compete and experience a taste of European sporting culture.
With teams taking part in both bocce and pétanque, the event combined friendly competition with plenty of laughter, team spirit and light-hearted rivalry. Whether experienced players or newcomers to the games, participants were encouraged to get involved, with guidance available to ensure everyone could enjoy the afternoon.
More than just a sporting event, the Pétanque & Bocce Cup provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships between the Italian and French business communities in South Africa, fostering new connections in a welcoming and informal environment.
Hosted at the Italian Club of Cape Town, the afternoon was a fitting celebration of the shared European traditions, camaraderie and conviviality that continue to bring our communities together.

ItalCham Visits Members at NAMPO Cape 2026
On Friday, 11 September, the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries (ItalCham) took a trip to NAMPO Cape in Bredasdorp, one of the Western Cape’s leading agricultural exhibitions, to connect with members and explore the innovation shaping South Africa’s agricultural sector.
During the visit, the ItalCham team had the opportunity to meet with Shelanti Agri, the South African importer and distributor of Valente Pali, an Italian company specialising in technical solutions for vineyards and orchards.
Based in Ceres, Shelanti Agri has been providing agricultural mechanisation solutions since 2013, with a particular focus on orchard and vineyard farming. The company works closely with farmers across South Africa, offering specialised equipment, technical advice and long-term solutions for modern agricultural operations.
A key part of Shelanti Agri’s offering is Valente Pali, an Italian company with decades of experience in the design and development of vineyard and orchard systems. Valente provides solutions designed to protect crops from challenges such as hail, wind, sun and insects, while supporting efficient and sustainable agricultural production.
The visit was a valuable opportunity to see first-hand how Italian agricultural expertise and technology are contributing to the South African market, while strengthening the connections within the ItalCham membership community.

Mental Health in the Workplace: Insights and Best Practices
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries (ItalCham) participated in a highly successful and insightful panel discussion on Mental Health in the Workplace, hosted at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club.
Held ahead of World Mental Health Day, the event gathered business leaders and professionals to explore critical strategies for supporting mental well-being across organizations of all sizes—from small enterprises to large corporations.
The evening featured a distinguished panel of industry experts, including Cindy Poluta (Radio 702 and 94.7), Adv. Tertius Wessels (Strata-G Labour Solutions), Vuyokazi Ngwane Maleki (Deputy MD, Akeso Netcare), Cindy Kaschula (Owner, MC Occupational Therapy), and Paula Quinsee (CEO, Engaged Humans).

Italian citizens residing abroad will be called to vote for the renewal of the Comitati degli Italiani all’Estero (Com.It.Es.), the representative bodies of Italian communities abroad.
Established in 1985, Com.It.Es. are elected directly by Italian citizens residing in the relevant consular district and serve as a point of reference for the Italian community in its relations with Embassies and Consulates.
What do Com.It.Es. do?
Com.It.Es. represent the interests and needs of Italian citizens abroad in their relations with Italian diplomatic and consular authorities and contribute to fostering the integration of Italian communities in their countries of residence.They also promote the preservation of the historical memory of Italian emigration and help highlight the contribution of Italian communities to the societies in which they live and work.
How are Com.It.Es. formed?
A Com.It.Es. may be established in a consular district with more than 3,000 Italian citizens registered with AIRE (Registry of Italians Residing Abroad).Each committee consists of:12 members in communities of up to 100,000 Italian citizens;18 members in communities with more than 100,000 Italian citizens.Members serve a five-year term.
Who can vote?
Italian citizens who have been residing in the relevant consular district for at least six months may vote, provided they have submitted the appropriate application to their Consulate to be included in the electoral register for the Com.It.Es. elections.
How does voting work?
Com.It.Es. elections take place by postal vote.Ballot papers will be sent to the residential address of eligible voters who have submitted the required application. Once received, voters must return their ballot to the relevant Consulate by following the instructions provided in the information sheet included in the electoral package.Italian citizens residing abroad are encouraged to check the relevant Consulate’s official communications for deadlines, registration requirements and further information on the electoral process.
