Ospitalità Italiana:
Celebrating Authentic Italian Cuisine in South Africa
.jpg)
The "Ospitalità Italiana – Italian Restaurants in the World" certification, promoted by Unioncamere with the operational support of IS.NA.R.T., recognises restaurants that uphold the highest standards of authentic Italian cuisine, hospitality and culinary tradition.
The initiative also plays a key role in upholding the Made in Italy brand by combating the phenomenon of Italian Sounding and ensuring that diners can enjoy a genuine Italian experience abroad.
In South Africa, ItalCham proudly coordinates the local implementation of the project, supporting restaurants throughout the certification process and promoting Italian culinary excellence across the country.
Following the 2024 edition, 11 South African restaurants were awarded the prestigious quality label. The Chamber is already working towards the next edition, aiming to expand the network of certified restaurants, pizzerias and gelaterie committed to preserving the authenticity of Italian cuisine.
The "Ospitalità Italiana" certification is more than a mark of quality, it is a symbol of trust, excellence and tradition, offering restaurateurs greater international visibility while giving customers the confidence of enjoying a truly authentic Italian dining experience.
A special congratulations to the newly certified restaurants — Settebello in Johannesburg and Calore in Johannesburg. Their recognition reflects their dedication to preserving the authentic flavours, traditions and hospitality that make Italian cuisine renowned around the world. We are proud to welcome them into the Ospitalità Italiana family and wish them continued success in sharing the best of Italy with South Africa.

Born in Rome and having spent much of his life living across Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa, Alfredo’s journey has shaped a deep appreciation for food, culture and the power of gathering around a table.
Driven by his passion for Italian cuisine, Alfredo returned to Italy to further develop his craft, where he trained under a Michelin-starred chef Antonio Bondi.
