Chamber's Note

ON A SOCIAL NOTE

This next week might feature a great deal of news and social media posts coming from Cape Town. Try book a trip down from JHB to CT this or next week and you will notice the prices are at a premium.

Today’s state of the nation address, the surrounding diplomatic occasions, the Cape Town Art Fair and the Mining Indaba are all attracting foot traffic from the country’s economic hub to the Mother City. Additionally, the third inter-Chamber European Business Breakfast sponsored by Wesgro has become a staple event in the diplomatic calendar, linking business, diplomats and

Western Cape officials.

What we must never lose sight of is why this is all happening.

Why do states need diplomats in foreign countries?

Why does the president address the country once a year at the SONA?

A kernel at the heart of these questions is the power of communication

for the sake of coordination.

As such, our board’s lunch with Italy’s incoming ambassador, his excellency, Alberto Vecchi, was a momentous occasion for strengthening the ties between our Chamber of Commerce and the Italian State which help us to deliver on the bilateral mandate of the Chamber.

To those outside these circles, the world of diplomacy may seem obscure and inaccessible. Some may even claim that it has nothing to do with them. But at the best of times diplomacy can save millions of lives.

During this diplomatic period, we wish to keep the world informed about our network’s efforts to bridge the gaps between different communities as well as to develop new lines for understanding and

a shared vision for the future.

And in this 21st century we can keep you all up to speed with our activities in real time. Follow our socials to stay updated!
