Business Excellence Awards 2026
A Timeless Duel of Excellence: The 2026 Business Excellence Awards
The Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries hosted the 2026 edition of its prestigious Business Excellence Awards on 15 May at the @Sandton Hotel, celebrating excellence, leadership, and the strong relationship between the Italian and South African business communities.
Inspired by the “Black and White” theme, symbolising strategy and vision, the evening combined elegance with captivating opera performances by the Loveline Foundation singers. Renowned broadcaster Neil Andrews returned as master of ceremonies, guiding the evening with his signature professionalism and charm.
Among the evening’s highlights, the SME Enterprise of the Year Award was presented to Settebello, the Johannesburg-based restaurant recognised for its authenticity, quality, and strong support of the local Italian community.
The Enterprise of the Year Award went to The Excellence Group, a fast-growing leader in the luxury interiors and design sector, now operating across eight African countries with more than 230 employees.
The Business Person of the Year Award was awarded to Aurelio Grech-Cumbo of RGC Engineering for his outstanding contribution to precision engineering and skills development in South Africa.
A particularly moving moment of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Giovanni Coci, honoured for his distinguished medical career and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event also reflected the Chamber’s commitment to social responsibility, with a record R241,000 raised in support of the Little Eden Society. The 2026 Business Excellence Awards once again highlighted the values driving the Italian-South African business community: innovation, resilience, and a shared commitment to excellence.

ItalCham Announces
New Board Appointments
at the 2026 AGM
The Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries (ItalCham) successfully held its 2026 Annual General Meeting on 13 May 2026 at the Italian Club in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, bringing together members, directors, and stakeholders to reflect on the Chamber’s activities, financial performance, and future strategic direction.
A key focus of this year’s AGM was the strengthening and renewal of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, with several important appointments approved by members. Following the completion of their four-year mandates, Elisabetta Tonini, Maphepane Baiocco, and Sergio De Lucia stepped down from the Board after years of dedicated service and contribution to the Chamber. Members expressed their appreciation for their commitment to the Italian-South African business community.
Members approved the appointment of four new Directors, bringing significant international experience and sector-specific expertise aligned with key areas of Italian-South African trade and investment:
-
Giovanni Possente, General Manager of Pelliconi South Africa, joins the Board with extensive leadership experience in manufacturing, logistics, procurement, and international business operations across Europe, Africa, and the United States.
-
Fabio Venturi, a recognised leader in the green economy and sustainability sector, brings deep expertise in ESG strategy, renewable energy, environmental compliance, and infrastructure development projects across Africa.
-
Laura Ranieri, Executive Director at Cape Refining, contributes strong technical and industrial innovation expertise, particularly in circular economy initiatives, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable industrial processes.
-
Lebogang Tlhoaele, founder of LB Tax Consulting, strengthens the Board with significant experience in taxation, regulatory compliance, and financial advisory services relevant to companies operating in complex cross-border environments.
The newly appointed Board members reflect the Chamber’s strategic focus on sectors that are increasingly important in bilateral trade relations between Italy and South Africa, including advanced manufacturing, sustainability, green economy, industrial innovation, and professional services.
During the AGM, members also approved the Chamber’s 2025 Annual Financial Statements and adopted the proposed 2026 budget. Discussions highlighted the Chamber’s continued growth in activities and its commitment to supporting members, facilitating business opportunities, and strengthening commercial ties between Italy and Southern Africa.
Secretary General Pamina Bohrer welcomed the new appointments, noting that the combined expertise of the incoming Board members will support the Chamber’s evolving role in promoting trade, investment, and sector collaboration between the two countries.
